THE EDITOR: I consider myself among the 30 per cent of TT nationals who have no tabanca for any political party. I hold no party card and I vote across party lines. I vote for who I believe is best suited to lead our country.

This time I stayed home, I decided that no party was worthy of me staining my finger. However, I am surprised that the UNC supporters are shocked and devastated that they lost. The PNM even won the popular vote. Since the UNC executive has not enlightened its supporters as to why the party lost, let me do so.

ISIDORE GABRIEL has offered a critique of articles on Christian church slave-owning written separately, and without collusion, by the two of us. Since the articles in question did indeed indict Christian churches (Anglicans, Catholics, and Presbyterians) as having been slave-owning, it is important that we reply, offering further grounds for our separate but correlated statements. In the light of Gabriel’s remarks, we shall be focusing on the Catholic case.

THE MOST recent wave were post-election rants: uncomfortable, often appalling statements by pro-UNC activists angry at the PNM’s success at the polls that were met by savage retorts from pro-PNM voices.

On Thursday morning, Archbishop of Port of Spain Jason Gordon warned that the country is on a “dangerous path,” on the evidence of racially charged posts on social media.

He was joined in his concerns by SWAHA pundit Hardeo Persad, who warned, “Where there is disunity, there is no end to the negativity and things fall apart.”
